Tung-Sol was a U.S. manufacturer of light bulbs and vacuum tubes that was probably the most popular in the 1950′s. Tung-Sol was renowned by audiophiles for the 6550 tube (among others). Well before that, Tung-Sol developed the first successful headlamp for automobiles. New Sensor Corp (US Corp.) now owns the Tung-Sol trademark and manufactures the tubes in Russia.
Ham radio operators used to fondly classify nerdy types as those who wore Tung-Sol pocket protectors.
